Project Description

Alexander Boswell DL, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire

In position 2006 – 2007

A year of extraordinary variety and fascination, ranging from the revival and opening of a medieval Farmers Market with Mary Berry in Gerrards Cross to partying with Robbie Williams at the MK Bowl.

An extraordinary and breathless year full of learning and experiences…with the capacity to change one’s life and touch many others.

My time as High Sheriff

As well as all the routine events, meetings and receptons, there were a number of Shrieval initiatives in a busy year: a series of High Sheriff’s Dinenrs, each for 36 guests, with interludes from local young performers, held in order to promote good causes or establish new connections.

A High Sheriff’s Concert enjoyed by 1,125 guests to favour MK’s City Orchestra and Theatre.

A Drugs Misuse Conference attended by the Police and high-level decision makers.

Inviting the Lord Chief Justice to visit HMP Grendon and accompanying him around the Prison including a briefing on the Prison’s experimental Therapeutic Process.

High Sheriff’s Award Ceremonies to recognise local unsung heroes with the presentation of framed certificates and The Boswell Diary Prize (supported and continued by Bucks Education Service) a competition for young people to record their personal experiences and deeper feelings over a fixed period.

Lighter projects were the introduction and commissioning of a High Sheriff’s Ale from the Aylesbury Brewery (of course, an instant best seller).

An armed countryside rampage with 8 serving or former High Sheriffs and our Under-Sheriff; and a summer of Charity Pig Roast enjoyed by 380.
